Hand Cramps and Chisels

Today was a very productive artsy day. In sculpture, I began to chip away 2 layers of plaster to get my horse mold. This took all of class (1:15-4pm) and I am still not done. We had to use a chisel and a hammer, and knives and gloves and special glasses for protection. It was very intense! We all got hand cramps too. This is my piece so far. You can't see the detail in it, but you can in person! I'll finish taking out the pink plaster on Wednesday (I hope).

After class, I went to the ceramics studio to work on my container. Now, all the sides are done. Blogger won't let me upload a video so these are the close ups of each animal... It looks much better when you look at all of them together! The video is on my Facebook and Instagram.

The elephant represents Asia. When I was in Thailand, my mom and I went to a mahout camp where we rode elephants, painted with them, fed them, bathed them, etc.

The monkey represents Africa. When I was in Tanzania on safari, a monkey jumped in through the roof of the safari car while I was the only one in it.. It wanted my cookies. It did not get them.

This whale represents Antarctica. When my mom and I were in Antarctica, we had a minke whale pop up right at our zodiac.

This represents Australia/New Zealand. When my mom and I were on a boat, we had a pod of tiny dolphins following us.

The sea lion represents South America. When my mom and I were in the Galapagos Islands, a baby sea lion came up to me wanting to play!

This horse represents Europe. It will represent horseback riding in Italy (which I will be doing very soon!)

I still have to do the lid, which will represent North America (California) and have a sun and waves. Basically, today was a full day at the studio (I was there until nearly 8pm) so there is nothing else to report for today...

Ciao for now!
