A Trip Around the World

24 days of travel... It's time for another Title adventure. This time, we’ll literally be traveling around the world (not to mention checking off some long-time bucket list destinations)! We’ll be traveling to…

Peru. Unfortunately due to my altitude sickness, I will not be seeing Machu Picchu (maybe one day). Instead, we'll travel to the colonial town of Trujillo on Peru's North Coast. Here, we'll visit the largest adobe city in the world (Chan Chan), ancient monuments of the Moche culture at El Brujo, the Lady Cao Museum filled with treasures of Peru's most famous mummy, and the Museum Tumbas Reales of Sipan.

Easter Island. A longtime bucket list destination of mine, we'll finally see the moai of Easter Island. This tiny 63 square mile island, a windswept land called Rapa Nui, consists of just one main road and a cluster of hotels near Hanga Roa (the small town where nearly all the island's population of 4,700 live). Here, we'll visit various moai sites including Ahu Tongariki, Rapa Nui, Rano Raraku, Anakena Beach, Ahu Akivi, Ahu Tahai and Orongo.

Samoa. A brief stop in Samoa takes us to Vailima, Robert Louis Stevenson's home and now a museum housing mementos from his final days in Samoa. We'll also enjoy a traditional kava ceremony and fire dancing.

Australia. While most people visit to see the Great Barrier Reef, I'll be spending time at Port Douglas's award-winning Wildlife Habitat in Tropical North Queensland. Here, we will spend time with zookeepers learning about their commitment to ensuring injured, orphaned and sick animals are cared for through their wildlife rescue program.

Cambodia. I was last in Cambodia in 2007, though it was before I was really into photography. Sure, I had a little camera with me but my skills were not nearly at the level I am at now. So, of course I have to go back to Angkor Wat to photograph at sunrise (and possibly sunset). We'll also venture back to Tonle Sap, a beautiful floating village, along with Ta Prohm and Bayon Temple.

India. One of my favorite countries I've visited, I am extremely excited to go back to India. In fact, I'll be there twice this year... Once on this trip, and later in April to photograph the tigers on another photography expedition. On this trip, we'll be in Agra which we visited back in 2010. I've done a ton of research and have consulted with other travelers and friends, so I've found a plethora of new locations to photograph. These include the Kinari Bazar, the Baby Taj (known as the Tomb of I'timād-ud-Daulah), and a viewpoint that was recommended to me called Mehtab Bagh. I also found a day trip that ventures to the Keoladeo National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site also known as the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary as well as Fatehpur Sikri (located about 90 minutes away from Agra).

Tanzania. A decent halfway point between India and Jordan, we'll stop in Tanzania for a quick trip to the Serengeti. Since I've been here numerous times, I've planned a trip to nearby Ndutu. The wildlife addict in me looks forward to waking up at the crack of dawn, hopping in the safari vehicles, and staying out until nightfall (and hopefully not accidentally spraying bug spray in my eye like I did on our last trip to the Serengeti at 5 in the morning!!).

Jordan. Another long time bucket list destination, my mom and I will finally see the ancient wonder of Petra. For hundreds of years, Petra was lost to the Western world, carved in sandstone and partially buried in sand. Now, it's a UNESCO World Heritage site known as the "Pink City" because of the red-hued sandstone used by the ancient Nabataeans to create its palaces, tombs, and treasury. Here, I plan to visit the famous Al-Khazneh (nicknamed the Treasury), Jebel Khubtha (The Royal Tombs), and, time permitting, I plan on trekking 850 stairs uphill to the lesser visited Ad Dayr (nicknamed the Monastery). Of course, we'll also visit famous Wadi Rum (the largest valley in Jordan).

Morocco. Yet another place I've been dying to photograph, we'll end the trip in Marrakesh. Here, we'll venture to the Koutoubia Mosque, the Bahia Palace, and the Dar El Bacha. We'll also experience the bustling Djemaa el-Fna Square where there are more than 100 open-kitchen food stalls in addition to jugglers, story tellers, snake charmers, musicians, and more.

It is bound to be a fantastic trip full of photo opportunities and my camera gear is ready to go...

24 days of photographing non-stop. 24 days of exploration. 24 days of exploring new cultures. Let's do this!
