Slip Decoration

Today was the last day to hand build in ceramics. However, instead of making more animals (since I already have six) I painted some more of them (I had painted a few on Saturday). So, I have my wildebeest ready for firing.

And my wart hog ready for firing.

I'm doing slip decoration for this project because I find it the least time consuming, the easiest, and the most fun. Basically, slip is colored, liquified clay. So you apply slip decoration before the clay has even been fired. After you do the slip decoration, you fire the piece. Then, you apply the glaze and fire again. So, this process is also the quickest in the long run. Now, my safari family looks like this. I just have to paint the giraffe.

Originally my professor also said we have to use an additional material (besides clay) in our pieces so I was planning on making wooden stands. However, I like my animals like this so I told her and now I don't have to do the stands (or anything else besides the animal). That's a relief!

I also noticed that my abstract vase was fired. It's so hard to capture it in a picture. It's really white and shiny and the colors are even more beautiful in person. I didn't like it before it was fired, but now I am in love with it.

Well, I don't have class tomorrow since I'm done with my sculpture class so I may go shopping or go to the ceramics studio to paint my giraffe. Either way...

Ciao for now!
