I'll Never Eat Boxed Pasta Again
Today was a productive day. In sculpture, I almost completely finished my elephant. I tried to make it lighter by taking out more stone from above the legs, and I fixed the ears, added an eye, and made the design on the legs pop out more.
Tembo (Swahili for "elephant".. Creative, I know) also got a tail today.
I also started to carve the design on his trunk-- a flower and a heart. After I finish up his trunk, he should be all done!
When I got home, I decided to make homemade tagliatelle with meat sauce, like my mom and I made when we took the cooking class in Florence. It took two hours (not too bad).. I first had to make the dough, pictured below.
While the dough was in the refrigerator, I began to make the meat sauce (red onion, carrot, celery, meat, olive oil, salt, and red wine). The meat sauce actually turned out much better than the one we made in the cooking class!
After sitting in the refrigerator for awhile, the dough was ready to be rolled out. Little did I know, our apartment doesn't have a rolling pin, and Conad didn't have one. I texted my mom in a panic thinking I wouldn't be able to finish making my pasta, but she told me to try to use a wine bottle as a rolling pin which ended up working really well! When in Italy....
After I rolled and folded the pasta, it was time to cut the tagliatelle and unravel it. Yummy!
After I cooked the pasta and combined it with the meat sauce, it was finally time to eat it. Of course, I had to put freshly grated parmesan on top!
I have to do some more sketching for tomorrow so...
Ciao for now!
