Ciao, Roma!

Today my mom and I took the fast train to Rome (from Florence it's about an hour and a half). We arrived in the afternoon, and had lunch. Then, we walked around the Colosseum and the Victor Emmanuel monument, where we saw these horse carriages. We didn't actually ride them, but it was a pretty photo op!

Then, we climbed up the Victor Emmanuel monument (my favorite place in Rome) where we had this view of the Colosseum, Roman Forum, etc.

And here we are!

On the other side of the monument, we had a completely different view (more residential) where you can see the Vatican in the upper left. This seagull just so happened to be posing for the perfect picture.

In the evening, we wanted some good fish (especially me, since I've been living off of pasta in Florence). Our hotel, Capo d'Africa, suggested Papagiò so we went there. We both had variations of sea bass (my mom had sea bass in a potato crust and I had sea bass with artichokes and potatoes). I also had a glass of white wine (actually one I had bought when I was in San Gimignano-- it's their speciality wine) to go along with my dinner.

And for dessert, we had to have a little tiramisu, though not the typical tiramisu. Normally, tiramisu has coffee in it but this one was just the white part with hot chocolate (fudge). Yum!

We are getting up early tomorrow to tour the inside of the Colosseum (finally) so...

Ciao for now!
