Carving Soap

Today was one of my easier days class wise. In sculpture, we finished getting rid of the pink plaster mold so now my piece looks like this. There's a few holes from where I chipped the plaster away, so I added more plaster to those spots and will post a (hopefully) final pic after the weekend.

Because I added more plaster, my piece had to dry which meant I couldn't do any more work on it. As a result, I was able to leave class over an hour early! Our only assignment? Carve a piece of soap by next class as practice for our stone piece. So when I got home, that's what I did (after marathoning a few TV shows...)

I quickly found out that instead of the tool I borrowed from the sculpture studio, I liked a knife from our kitchen's knife set the most.

I messed up on the white soap because I had no idea how to carve it at first, so I had to run to the Conad next door to buy some more! Luckily, I got there right as it was closing but the lady at the cashier was nice enough to let me quickly get soap. Eventually, I came up with this little elephant, which was a lot harder than this may look!

This weekend, I am going to buy some more soap (preferably white soap) so that I can carve some more... It's really fun and will give me something to do! My roommate Alana will even join me in carving soap and blasting music, so it should be a good time.

Ciao for now!
